Mackenzie '18
University of Victoria, Victoria, BC
Bachelor of Engineering-Biomedical Engineering
Hannah graduated from Brentwood in 2018 and moved to Victoria BC, where she is working towards a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Victoria. She also works as a medical device assembly technician, private tutor, and gardener. As part of UVic’s co-op program, Hannah enjoyed working on StarFish Medical’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic: the Canadian Emergency Ventilator project, which produced an ICU-level ventilator that could be manufactured quickly without disrupting supply chains for existing ventilator manufacturers. In 2022, she completed two more co-op work terms as a medical device assembly technician in StarFish Medical’s manufacturing department. Hannah spent two years as the Local Outreach Coordinator for Let’s Talk Science, organizing hands-on STEM activities for K-12 students, and continues to volunteer as an activity leader. She is currently working on an Honour’s thesis verifying an algorithm for improving the accuracy of surgical predictions based on CT scans of bones. When she is not studying or working, Hannah enjoys growing and cooking food, knitting socks and sweaters, and exploring beaches and mountains. She has mentored several high school students who are considering studying science or engineering, and is always happy to answer questions.
