Adelaide Backer is the Assistant Head of Boarding at Havergal College, an independent day and boarding school for girls in Toronto, Ontario. After graduating from Brentwood, Adelaide moved from Vancouver Island to Cambridge, MA to complete her undergraduate studies at Harvard College. While at university, she also competed as a four-year varsity member of the women’s lightweight rowing team and held on-campus jobs such as working as an intern in the Freshman Dean’s Office.

Adelaide’s positive experience at Brentwood inspired her to find work in independent schools, and she began her career as an admissions assistant and house parent at a boarding school in New Jersey. Since then, she has held residence life, administration, and rowing coaching positions at schools in the US, Australia and Canada.

Adelaide went back to school to pursue a Masters in Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2018. The program was one year long and she focused her studies on K-16 student development theory, education administration, and data visualisation. In addition to her graduate studies, she worked as a residence assistant in one of the Harvard undergraduate dorms – her favourite job yet.

Adelaide is looking forward to sharing her post-secondary story with you!
