Samantha is a local island resident. Growing up in Port McNeill, BC on the North end of Vancouver Island, Samantha began attending Brentwood in her Grade 11 year. After graduating from Brentwood in 2013, Samantha enrolled at Queen's University in Kingston, ON where she completed her mining engineering degree. During her degree at Queen's, Samantha was the Captain of the SME Mine Design competition, Vice President of the Mining Society, and a member of the Queen's Canadian Mining Games team.
Two weeks after her university graduation in 2017, Samantha began to work for Detour Gold Corp. as an engineering intern on a 6 month contract. In August 2017, Samantha was hired full time as an engineer in training, where she would fill a number of positions over the next 2.5 years. Working a 2-week-on, 2-week-off rotation, Samantha began her career managing data for Fleet Management Systems for the Mine Operations Technical Services department, before becoming the Short Range Shovel and Drill planner and eventually the Mine Business Analyst.
Samantha has recently joined Teck Resources in their Reliability department, moving from Operations to Maintenance as a Business Improvement EIT. She has moved 8 times over the last 6 years, from Kingston, ON to Toronto, ON, Toronto to Vancouver, BC, before ending up in BC's beautiful Elk Valley. Samantha is excited by the future of mining and the technology emerging in the sector, and is thrilled to share some of the future possibilities of what a career in mining could look like for the upcoming Brentwood graduates.
