Cpl. Scott HarderÂ
Scott developed a strong desire to become a police officer early in his life. While working in the construction industry in the Okanagan, he joined the Penticton RCMP as an Auxiliary Constable, an experience that further solidified his commitment to policing. In 2008, at the age of 33, he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Following the completion of training at Depot Division, Scott was posted to the North Cowichan/Duncan Detachment, where he served as a General Duty Constable. After two years in General Duty, he was selected for the Street Crimes Unit, focusing on drug trafficking and property crime investigations. During this posting, he received specialized training in thermal imaging and began flying with the Comox Air Section helicopter (Air 8) as a spotter and camera operator. In this role, he assisted with marijuana grow operation investigations, surveillance operations, and missing persons searches. He gained extensive operational experience in Search and Rescue, as well as aerial support operations.
In 2011, Scott was selected to the General Investigative Section (GIS) at the North Cowichan/Duncan Detachment, where he worked as part of a team responsible for investigating serious Crimes Against Persons. These complex investigations included fraud-related offences, serious assaults, and homicide investigations.
Since 2019, Scott has received training as a Tactical Flight Officer (TFO), including underwater egress and Night Vision Goggle (NVG) operations. He regularly participates in daytime and nighttime flight training scenarios to maintain operational proficiency in the helicopter.
After more than twelve years at the North Cowichan/Duncan Detachment, he transferred to the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment. In 2024, he was promoted from Constable to Corporal and assigned to General Duty as a frontline supervisor. He continues to serve as a Corporal and supervisor in Nanaimo, while flying part-time with the Comox Air Section as a Tactical Flight Officer supporting operations throughout Vancouver Island.
