Amy is a Humanitarian Advisor for the United Nations and Red Cross / Crescent Movement.
Amy worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross for over 10 years. ICRC has a mandate under the Geneva Convention to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war. Amy was an operational manager in Ivory Coast, Darfur (Sudan), Pakistan, Burundi, Gaza and South Sudan. In these roles, she would promote international humanitarian law with conflicting parties, visiting detainees to prevent mistreatment and to improve material conditions, organizing the reunification of families and coordinating the delivery of assistance. Amy then worked at the Headquarters in Geneva Switzerland as a facilitator and Head of Program, coordinating policy to strengthen the humanitarian system.
Amy is a Humanitarian Advisor with the United Nations Disaster and Assessment Coordination Team, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). In this role, she deploys to sudden onset emergencies around the world to support the government response and to coordinate the international humanitarian response including common humanitarian assessments, funding appeals, and deployment of international search and rescue, material assistance and military assets.
Amy also works with the Canadian Red Cross as an Advisor where she facilitates the harmonization of approaches and mechanisms for emergency responses in Canada and abroad.
