I have always loved sciences, learning about how things work, making observations, testing theories, exploring and understanding the complexity of the world around us.
My love of sciences and learning led me to the world of Medical Laboratory Technology. This is a professional that encompasses all the things I love: chemistry, biology, microbiology and helping people. Medical Laboratory Technologists provide a wide variety of diagnostic testing and analysis of blood and body fluids, tissue samples, swabs, for patients, giving physicians and health care providers vital information on what is happening with their patients and how to effectively diagnosis and treat their patients.
After graduating from the Med Lab Technology program, I took a position with Island Health Laboratory in Victoria BC and have grown my entire career with this organization. I have had opportunities to continue my educational pursuits, taking technical and leadership courses to enhance my Lab and leadership skills, enabling me to take higher level positions within Lab and Island Health.
I hold certificates in Medical Laboratory Technology, Quality Management and Project Management as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science. These courses have helped me grow my career and along with my experience in Lab and hard work, have landed me in my current position.
As Lab Operations Director for South Island, I am responsible for overseeing the Labs and approximately 350 Lab staff for all of Victoria, Duncan and Salt Spring Island. In this role, I work with front end lab staff and Lab Leaders as well as other leadership teams and Directors across our organization to ensure that our labs are running effectively and efficiently and that we are providing quality lab services to our patients.
