Project Engineer, CarbonCure Technologies
Hello! My name is Lauchlan McDonald, I am a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Queen’s University, originally from Shawnigan Lake and I graduated Brentwood in 2018. I started Brentwood in grade ten and had a heavy focus on math and sciences which eventually led me to pursue a career in the engineering world. I excelled academically at Queen’s and I have quite a unique work experience for an engineer my age, such as living in Israel for a summer to build apps, or design cancer detection devices at a UBC research lab.
Currently, I’m working for a climate technology company based in Halifax called CarbonCure which permanently destroys air pollution contributing to global warming by trapping it in concrete. My role in the company as a Project Engineer in the Product Development department is to manage, test, and optimize new technologies that the company aims to bring to the market. As a young engineer just starting his career, I have unique advice of my own to pass along, as well as guidance from my many personal and profession mentors I’ve had throughout the years which can help anyone interested in the field of engineering but also inform how to approach your future no matter where you end up.
