Boeing 777 Captain for Air Canada
Kevin Maher learned to fly before he had a driver’s license, forcing him to ride a bicycle to the airport while learning to fly – an experience that has left him with little love for cycling to this day. Forty years and nearly thirty thousand flying hours later, he is a Boeing 777 Captain for Air Canada flying routes that literally span the globe.
After gaining a commercial pilots license Kevin’s first job was flying “crop dusters” for 5 summers while attending university in the winters. After accumulating sufficient credits to earn his degree in geological engineering, Kevin decided to follow his dreams of flying full time. This initially started by two seasonal jobs, first a summer flying waterbombers and then a winter flying a cargo airplane servicing a remote mine in Northern British Columbia. Over the next decade Kevin flew an air ambulance ( The most personally rewarding flying he has ever done.), air cargo, and several years flying for a regional airline. For the last 26 years Kevin has been employed by Air Canada flying the Airbus A-320, A-330, and Boeing 777. In his spare time Kevin flies a number of historic second world war vintage aircraft and is currently finishing the restoration of an 86 year old vintage Boeing biplane.
Kevin feels very privileged to be able to introduce young people to the opportunities in aviation. While employed as a pilot, Kevin also enjoys speaking about the opportunities for people interested in becoming aircraft mechanics, dispatchers, flight attendants, aeronautical engineers, and air traffic controllers.
