Alexandra '89/Current Parent

Chief Marketing Officer, Tailored Brands

After three years at Brentwood as an Alex House day student (who rarely actually went home!), Carolyn graduated in 1989 and went on to complete her B.Sc. in Genetics at UBC.

Seeking to get WAY out of her comfort zone, Carolyn moved to Japan where she lived for over 3 years. Despite no relevant experience other than passable Japanese, Carolyn landed a job in Tokyo with a Market Research firm that helped North American and European companies learn more about the Japanese consumer and how to market to them. Working with clients that ranged from IBM to Campbell Soup and Goldfish Crackers to Pond’s Facial Cream, Carolyn began to get an inkling of what Marketing was all about and the hook was set.

Ready to get back to Canada, Carolyn moved to Toronto and took a job with Unilever as an Assistant Brand Manager on Sunlight Laundry. Making the move “from Soap to Suds”, she went to Labatt to drive marketing for Alexander Keith’s. In the early days of the internet, Labatt’s parent company, Interbrew, bought the URL beer.com and seeing that this internet thing might really catch on, Carolyn leapt at the chance to be part of a small team launching the website as a start-up within a big company.

With one .com on the resume, Carolyn moved to San Francisco during the height of the internet boom in 2000. There, Carolyn worked in marketing with a couple of different startups before landing at eBay just as the company was exploding in growth. After 6 incredible years in various marketing leadership roles, she became a founding, managing partner at marketing strategy consulting firm, RevelOne, where she served start-ups and established companies across consumer retail and technology.

In Feb 2020, Carolyn joined her client, Tailored Brands, as the Chief Marketing Officer responsible for all consumer marketing efforts for the company’s portfolio of brands: Moores in Canada and Men’s Wearhouse, Jos. A. Bank, and K&G in the US. Her team is developing marketing strategies and innovative programs that are driving new customer growth, elevating the brands, and igniting the business.

As a current Brentwood parent of two, Carolyn is honoured to return to campus to speak about her background, all things marketing, and to answer your questions!
