Gwynneth '03
Speech and Language Pathologist, owner and operator of Communication Matters Speech and Language Therapy
Robin graduated from Brentwood in 2003 and from there moved around the globe to Austria, Ottawa, Peru, and New Zealand. As Robin meandered the globe she also explored her general interests in biology, languages, global politics and development; but her interests always came by to languages, inclusion of those with disabilities, and ultimately, to our relationships. This interest eventually led to further study in speech and language pathology, and Robin got her Masters in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Auckland and graduated in 2011.
After graduating, Robin moved back to Vancouver Island with her partner. There, she and her husband built their own home, started an organic farm, and had two boys. As an SLP she has worked with the child development centre, with Cowichan, Penelakut and Malahat First Nations and now is the owner and operator of ‘Communication Matters Speech and Language Therapy’. Some of the populations that Robin serves include those living with progressive neuromuscular disorders (e.g. parkinson’s disease), developmental difference (e.g. autism spectrum disorder) children born with oral-facial differences (e.g. cleft lip and palate) and children with developmental language disorders. She also has worked in Nepal building the capacity of Nepalese speech therapy assistants working with children with oral facial differences.
