Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Delinquent Theatre

Laura McLean is a theatre director, producer, dramaturg, and teacher based in Vancouver, BC.

After graduating from Brentwood Laura attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York to study acting. She then continued her studies in theatre at UBC where she studied Theatre Production including design, stage management, and directing. She discovered a passion for directing and completed her studies in the UK where she got her masters at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

In 2008 she started a small theatre company called Delinquent Theatre. Since then the company has grown to produce multiple award-winning productions that have toured nationally across the country. Delinquent Theatre develops new Canadian plays that explore the figure of the Delinquent as the resilient other – telling narratives of survival, ingenuity, and subversive action in the face of a hostile status quo. The company strives to create working spaces that challenge and re-examine traditional hierarchies in order to allow artists to grow and thrive. Imagining new ways of working instead of re-creating the established systems.

Laura also works as a freelance theatre director and has directed dozens of shows for theatre companies all around BC and the Yukon.

On top of that Laura teaches theatre at Arts Umbrella, an arts school for teens and children.

Laura understands what it is to build a life as a working artist and would love to talk to anyone who has questions about the performing arts industry and how to follow your passions in your career.
