Anna Pitoniak is the author of three novels: The Futures, Necessary People, and Our American Friend. She also worked for many years as an editor in book publishing in New York City, including as a Senior Editor at Random House. Her novel Our American Friend was recently reviewed in the New York Times, which called it: “Elegant and well-paced … Like ‘Emily in Paris’ meets ‘Scandal’—fantastic fun.” Her novel Necessary People is currently being developed by Annapurna Pictures as a TV series.
After Brentwood, Anna knew she wanted to study literature in college, and pursue a life centered around reading and writing. At Yale, she majored in English and worked as an editor at the Yale Daily News. After graduation, she moved to New York and began a career in book publishing, where she worked with a wide variety of novelists, journalists, historians, biographers, and memoirists.
She wrote her first two novels in the early mornings, in her apartment on the Upper East Side, before walking to work across Central Park.
In 2018, she left her day job to focus on writing full-time. When she isn’t writing and reading, Anna is an avid runner and baker. She spent her childhood in Whistler, and she misses the Pacific Northwest, but she long ago lost her heart to Manhattan. Don’t ask her to talk about how much she loves New York because if she starts, she will never shut up. She is happy to answer any of your questions about writing, publishing, media, and more!
