Speech and Language Pathologist, Columbia Speech and Language Services Inc., Fraser Health, VCH, PHC
Alexandra works as a speech and language pathologist in hospitals throughout the lower mainland and in private practice. She works in both the acute care and rehabilitation settings for Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health and Providence Health Care. She also works with the paediatric population at Columbia Speech and Language Services Inc.
Alexandra grew up in Cobble Hill, attending Brentwood college from 1999 until 2002. After graduating, she pursued an education in operatic vocal performance, earning a Diploma in Vocal Performance and Education from the Conservatory of Music in Victoria in 2004, a Bachelors of Music in 2007, and a Masters of Music in 2009 from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University. In 2009 she moved to Norway to complete a Post-Masters in Music from the University of Stavanger.
After receiving additional voice training in Europe, Alexandra returned to BC in 2012. She taught music during this time, and continued to perform. A chance meeting with an old friend and former Brentwood classmate, speech-language pathologist Robin McDaniel (’02), inspired Alexandra to set her sights on a new career path as a speech and language pathologist. She enrolled at the University of British Columbia in 2014, completing prerequisite linguistic and psychology courses, which earned her a Diploma in Linguistics in 2016. In 2017, she was accepted into the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences under the Faculty of Medicine at UBC, and in 2020 she completed a Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology.
She is passionate about her work as a speech pathologist, and has a special interest in the paediatric population, specifically in newborns with feeding and swallowing difficulties. In 2019, she completed the Douglas College Breastfeeding Course for Healthcare Professionals, and is currently in the process of attaining her certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
Alexandra lives in West Vancouver with her husband, two young daughters, and dog (Floyd). She enjoys exploring the North Shore with her family, and continues to sing with a Vancouver based chamber music ensemble, the Postmodern Camerata.
