Director of Strategic Policy, Treasury Board Secretariat at Government of Canada

Nick is the Director of Strategic Policy at the Treasury Board Secretariat, part of the Government of Canada. He leads a team that thinks about the future of the federal government, including long-term planning and supporting experimentation across government.

After graduating Brentwood, Nick completed an undergraduate in economics at Queen’s, before heading to the University of Oxford to do an MPhil (master’s) in economics, followed by a DPhil (PhD) in economics, with a focus on behavioural economics and understanding how people plan for the future. His research included topics such as retirement savings, energy-efficient technology adoption, and vaccine hesitancy. He also worked at several think tanks during that time, including the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London, UK, and the C.D. Howe Institute in Toronto.

After that, he joined the Government of Canada, where he has worked in several roles, including working to measure the impact of government and setting up an innovation unit on labour market policy. Nick grew up in Comox, BC.

He is happy to talk about careers in both economics and government!
