Grant graduated from Brentwood College in 1978 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in TV Broadcast Engineering from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.
After working as a TV News Reporter/Producer at Global TV in Vancouver for five years, Grant joined the Vancouver Police Department, serving in various capacities including as a K-9 Handler, as an investigator in the Criminal Investigation Division, and eventually as the head of the Forensic Video Unit.
While still a police officer, Grant began teaching video forensics at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA in 1998 and continues to this day as a contract instructor for the FBI National Academy.
Grant left his service as a police officer in 2000, to head Avid Technologies’ Forensic Video Division, located in Boston, MA.
In 2001, Grant received an award from the FBI in recognition of his assistance in processing video evidence of the 9/11 hi-jackers who made their way through various airports on the morning of September 11 of that year.
Grant is a Certified Forensic Video Analyst and, now in private practice, he specializes in the video examinations of Police Involved Shooting incidents.
As a consultant for Major Crime and Joint Forces Operations, Grant provides technical consulting for some of the most high-profile video related cases in the US and Canada. His work with the 2011 Stanley Cup Riot investigation in Vancouver won the International Association of Chiefs of Police top award for Technical Advances in a Criminal Investigation. He has testified over 300 times in courts throughout the US, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and in other parts of the world. He has consulted for the US Department of Justice, the IACP and the National Institute of Justice and is a co-author of Digital Video Systems Minimum Performance Specifications for Digital In-Car Video Recording Systems for US law enforcement.
Grant has been profiled on numerous television broadcasts and he appears frequently as a consultant on CNN, ABC News, BBC, CBC, FOX, and most recently was featured on the Netflix award winning series Exhibit A.
